UAE Set to Become First Country to Use AI to write LAWS

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is pioneering the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into its legislative process, marking a significant step towards modernizing governance. This initiative involves the establishment of the Regulatory Intelligence Office, a cabinet-level body tasked with overseeing an AI-driven system designed to draft, amend, and review laws. The system aims to analyze a comprehensive database of federal and local laws, court rulings, and government services to proactively suggest legal updates.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, emphasized that this AI-powered legislative system represents a paradigm shift, ensuring speed, precision, and alignment with the nation's rapid development. The government projects that this initiative could accelerate the legislative process by up to 70% and reduce associated costs by 50% .

While this move positions the UAE at the forefront of AI integration in governance, experts caution about potential challenges, including biases in AI training data and the need for human oversight to maintain the integrity of the legal system.

"As an observer of technological advancements in governance, the UAE's integration of AI into its legislative process is a fascinating development. It presents an opportunity to explore the balance between innovation and the preservation of legal integrity"
